An eager 23 Garingalites enjoyed the various towns of Central Victoria centred around Daylesford for the annual national championships held across two weekends. These events were punctuated midweek by the Aus Schools Championships & Aus/NZ Challenge concurrently with the Goldfields 3-Day (for all non-school folks). Top courses, several were World Ranking Events, and some fabulous results as outlined below. Check out the Horley family results: 4 firsts and 1 second!

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mike Ward, aged 69. A quiet, gentle man, who would always lend a hand (especially with collecting controls at the end of an event!).

Mike was a keen orienteer the last 12 years or so, especially at Sydney Summer Series events. Afterwards, Mike, with partner Stacey, would often go to the local pub or restaurant and keenly join in the typical analyses and commiserations after many an SSS. His early foray into 'bush orienteering' was at Hill End in March 2019 where, despite the technically difficult terrain, Mike came away still smiling.

However, a side to Mike that many orienteers may not know about was his absolute commitment to running much longer distances than any orienteering event! Stacey has put together a wonderful portrayal of Mike's 'running life': orienteering, rogaining, marathons and ultra-marathons. Read more about his life by clicking on the pdf file....

After many years of debate what to do, how to do it, etc, Garingal launches its website which has been revamped from the ground up! Still a few pages to fill and glitches to sort (Home page Coming events feed needs coding, Facebook feed works on some computers not others etc), but t'was time to set sail...

The site uses the WiX platform. The shape of the site was created by club member David Bray, plus Dave engineered the technical end of things and archived all documents from the old site. Barbara Junghans, the current President, infilled much of the content and refined the menu system. Feedback on the current site is welcome! It is your site.

Why WiX? Because WiX offers a very intuitive and easy-to-learn management system for adding content. There is a lot of 'drag and drop', keyboard shortcuts are common with other popular word programs, etc. Ideal for novices to pick it up quickly.

Do you want to contribute and keep those pages vital and filled? The Junior's Page is now in the hands of juniors. We are looking for other club members to take on small tasks. Email Barbara president@garingal.com.au .
